WELCOME TO UNDERWOOD FAMILY FARMS' CSA Program
About Underwood Family Farms
The farm is 100 acres of fruits and vegetables located near Moorpark.
The family has been farming in Ventura County since the late 1800’s.
The farm produces all the fruits and vegetables which we sell at the 13
Certified Farmers Markets where we participate. The
Somis and Moorpark roadside markets also
carry the produce from the farm, as well as other locations in the
County where the family farms. Underwood Family Farms and Underwood
Ranches have been known in the Southland for innovation in baby and
specialty vegetables. The farm has been recognized for many years for
its super sweet corn, exceptionally sweet
nantes carrots, yellow seedless watermelons,
exotic melons, heirloom tomatoes, golden beets, baby greens, and
unfamiliar vegetables.
Our Farming Practices
Our farm is a sustainable, non-organic growing system. Acting as good
stewards of our land, we have chosen to employ the best agronomic and
pest management practices utilized by certified organic growers, while
still maintaining the option of using conventional materials when
necessary to produce the best crop of healthy fruits and vegetables.
Most of the new materials we use have very little environmental impact
Awards
Underwoods has displayed at the Ventura
County Fair for over 15 years and won numerous sweepstake awards for
displays of produce. In 2006, the farm was one of three finalists for
the National Direct Marketer of the Year award offered by NAFDMA (North
American Farmer’s Direct Marketing Association), our national
association.
Underwood
Family Farms’ CSA program
By becoming a member of the Underwood Family Farms CSA, you will receive
a weekly shipment of
seasonal fruits and vegetables, grown on our farm,
with a value of $26. The mix will depend on the season and the
selection could be governed by any farming challenges we may encounter.
Our produce is all grown locally and will be harvested one day and
delivered the next. Membership will include a Season Pass to the farm
in Moorpark, a coupon good for a personalized tour (to be scheduled),
and recipes and product information available on our website. The season
pass is a $28 value which also includes a 50% discount to our
Fall Harvest Festival.
February 1, 2008 marks the beginning of the program. A subscription
period is 3 months and costs $338. Sign-up
can occur at any time after Feb.1, but deliveries will start the
succeeding month. Currently, we will be signing up members via an
order form that can be mailed or
faxed. After the 3-month period, subscription renewals will be made
on-line. At this time, you may visit www.underwoodfamilyfarms.com and
click on the link UFFCSA where you will be directed to the UFFCSA secure
on-line order form. Deliveries will be made to a central location and
it is the member’s responsibility to pick up
their produce. Once collected, it is important to keep produce cool to
retain freshness.
